The Representational Art League was formed in 1987 by a group of serious, producing artists to create, display and promote representational art in Humboldt County, California.
Styles of the artists vary from impressionism to realism, from whimsical to narrative. Paintings are in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, and colored pencil.
Business meetings are held monthly and include a critique session of members' current work. The members support and encourage each other and interact in the pursuit of improving their art.
One major exhibition, at least, is held annually featuring all new works.
A few of the major accomplishments by the league have included: developing and sponsoring with the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce, the first "Art and Wine in the Park," which continues to this day: also establishing an art scholarship trust fund by curating the 1991 North Coast Invitational art exhibit in the Eureka Inn.
The league donates cash awards to Redwood Art Association juried and judged exhibits, and also to the Humboldt County Fair.
The league has remained small, by choice, and membership is by invitation.
