oil by Frances Kuta
The Representational Art League will be at Moonstone Crossing Winery, 529 Trinity St. in Trinidad for a three-month show including two art changes, and two receptions. The first reception was already held on Oct. 1, and the second will be Dec. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. Gallery hours are Friday to Sunday from noon to 6p.m.

"Loaded" by Yevonne Reynolds

colored pencil
The Representational Art League prepared for their exhibit at Moonstone Crossing Winery not only from visiting vineyards but also by gathering together to set up still lifes related to wine, resulting in a fun day of painting and camaraderie. For other sources, they used family and friends' photos of Mendocino wine country.

"Tulips and Wine" by Pat Cahill

watercolor
The Representational Art League exhibit at Moonstone Crossing Winery has been planned since well before May of this year, giving league members enough time to visit wineries, paint "en plein air" and shoot reference photos. One such July visit was to the Winnett Winery in Willow Creek, home and vineyard of Sharon and Dave Winnett. Timed with the blooming of lavender and roses amid the vineyard, ripe pickings from overloaded cherry trees and a cool visit to the barrel room, the members had much inspiration to capture.

"Night Harvest" by Sara Starr

watercolor
The Representational Art League will be showing all new work at Moonstone Crossing Winery in Trinidad starting Saturday Oct. 1 and running through Dec. 29, 2011. For this three-month show, the league decided to paint the romance of all things related to wine.

This winter nocturne was inspired by the street lamps that illuminate the Arcata Plaza. The Plaza is a meeting place for the community and our local Humboldt State University.

"Mendocino Resident" by Sara Starr

Once a year or so I visit lovely Mendocino, on the Northern California coast. This watercolor comes from a street there and shows the interesting eclectic architecture one finds in the town. And, yes, the Siamese cat was there, but I took artistic license and moved him to a different spot.
I just learned that this painting won 2nd place in a Daniel Smith art supplies watercolor contest. Very happy about that. It's currently on display at the Trinidad Art Gallery in California through the end of May 2011.
